Global Links is a nonprofit organization that collects used but still useable home medical items – crutches, wheelchairs, nebulizers, canes, bandages etc – cleans them up, and delivers them to hospitals and clinics throughout Latin America. They are looking not only for individuals to clean out their closets of these items (and refrain from throwing them away), but also for community groups to consider organizing a drive to collect these items. Global Links will arrange trucks for pickup. Global also accepts primary care supplies, personal care items, and baby items for their new mom kits; these items include newborn size diapers, onesies, receiving blankets, f abric for baby clothing, booties, diaper cream, baby hats, lotion, diaper bags and more.

The volunteer corps at Animal Friends is a varied lot, ranging from youth volunteers who come with a parent to busy professionals and committed senior citizens. Some contribute a few hours each month, and others are at the shelter nearly as often as the staff. All share in Animal Friends’ mission, and can often be found excitedly discussing the adoption of a long-time resident or a milestone in the animal’s progress from a sometimes dismal start to a happy ending.
To sign up, contact Animal Friends Volunteer Coordinator: Ellen Sankovich - call: 412.847.7037 or email: volunteering@animal-friends.org
